So I always volunteer as a conversation buddy at the Intensive English Learning Institute on campus (where students learn English intensively) but this year I was assigned a conversation buddy by a class (lots of conversing required).
His name is Arturo and he’s from Japan. The way he smiles when he tells people his name…I think it’s not his real name. The institute just gave his last name.
He’s very creative with new words.
When the temperature dropped from 80 to 50 then ventured back up to the 80s he told me, “Your weather is passive-aggressive.”
When I got tongue-tied while talking he said, “It’s okay. English is tangy.”
He walked up to a girl who sneezed and said, “Gooooose tight!!!” with his face clinched, hands clawed and he held this position for a few moments before releasing and rejoining me casually.
I’m not sure where that came from but I’m going to keep encouraging.
The girl had no reaction. Talk about “goose tight”.
